GEORGE MURPHY, PINKY TOMLIN
Murphy's signature in blue ink on a green album leaf. Also signed by Pinky Tomlin on verso.
Signatures: "George Murphy", and on verso, "Pinky Tomlin", in blue ink, 6x4½ album leaf. Circa 1936. Dancer/actor George Murphy (1902-1992) appeared in film musicals of the 1930s, moving to dramatic roles in the late 1940s. He followed a path similar to that of his friend Ronald Reagan: switching party allegiance from Democratic to Republican, serving as President of the Screen Actors Guild, and winning election to the U.S. Senate from California in 1964. Truman "Pinky" Tomlin (1907-1987), whose nicknamed derived from his fair complexion, was a guitarist and band leader, occasional actor, and popular song writer. His biggest song hit came early, "The Object of My Affection" (1926), since covered by many artists, and the title of Tomlin's autobiography (1981). That and other songs by Tomlin have been heard on many film soundtracks over the years, beginning with One More Spring (1935). Tomlin appeared in many of these films, and even played the title role in one: Tickled Pinky (1940). He had a recurring role on the TV series Waterfront (1954). Lightly creased and toned. Binding holes at left edge. Ink notes (unknown hand) at lower margins. Otherwise, fine condition.
