Mabery Professor of Research in Chemistry, Oncology and Environmental Health Sciences Director of the Laboratory for Decision Support Methodologies. After completing his doctoral degree at the University of Brussels and then doing his post-graduate work at the University of Texas, Klopman's work focused on the concept of charge and orbital controlled reactions. Later on, interestingly, he designed and programmed the first semi-empirical method for the calculation of the properties of saturated molecules. This method later came to be known as MINDO. Hans-Georg Gilde was a professor of chemistry who graduated from Ohio University. He taught at Marietta College from 1961 to 1992. The Hans Gilde Scholarship Fund is an award named in his honor given out by Marietta College. It is awarded to a stand-out organic chemistry student who has displayed exceptional leadership qualities.
