HANK KETCHAM
Hank Ketcham sends a typed letter declining to go into the TV business with Dennis the Menace.
Typed Letter Signed: "Hank", 1p, 8½x11. Pebble Beach, California, 1981 September 9. To Mr. Nelson Buhler, BUHLER, KING & BUHLER, New York, New York. In full: "It certainly has been many moons since we have last been in touch. It is reassuring to find that you are still active as ever and I appreciate your continued interest in DENNIS and his poor old Dad. At about the same time when we last talked, all of my business affairs were turned over to the International Management Group, a Cleveland based organization headed by Mark McCormack and concerned mainly with sports personalities. Although I am not a big sport, DENNIS and I've been kept very active and I see no end in sight. We are even in the process of producing a musical comedy for Broadway. I am not in the least bit interested in being part of the Saturday morning t.v. (sic) programming. Most of this is being done abroad and on the most minimum budgeting imaginable. And I am not in the market, at the moment, for any Tax Shelter Plan. I am pretty well structured with a Trust and a Corporation and my investment program is very successfully managed. I am pleased to offer such a positive and promising report along with the assurance that Rolande, Dania, Scott and I are all enjoying the best of health. Please pass along my warmest regards to Syd and to Dottie and Bill Glass when you are next in touch. Cordially," Cartoonist Hank Ketcham (1920-2001), a former cartoonist for Lantz Productions at Universal Studios, created the Dennis the Menace comic strip in 1951, it was distributed in over 1,000 newspapers in 48 countries (in 19 languages) when he stopped drawing it in 1994 but continued to oversee a team of artists and writers who still produce it. He frequently featured such sports as baseball and golf in his cartoons and was 81 when he died on June 1, 2001. Lightly creased. Fold crease not near signature. Fine condition.
