Typed Letter Signed: "Harold E. Stassen," 1p, 7¼x10½, University of Pennsylvania letterhead. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1951 April 18. To: Mr. Seymour B. Pornfield, Elizabethton, Tennessee. In full: "Thank you very much for your kind letter regarding my "ROUND THE WORLD REPORT". Because I believe our future foreign policy is of such great importance, I have been pleased with the reaction to my remarks from throughout the country. For your information, enclosed is copy of a recent speech I gave in Chicago. Your thoughtfulness in writing and your continued interest in my behalf is deeply appreciated. Sincere regards,". Harold E. Stassen (1907-2001), "The Boy Wonder of Politics", was elected Governor of Minnesota at age 31, serving from 1939 to 1943, when he resigned to join the U.S. Navy. In 1945, he was one of the Signers of the Charter of the United Nations. Never holding elective office again, Stassen was an announced candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 1952, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1980. Horizontal fold creases (not affecting signature). ¼x¼ triangular cut 3inches down on left (at fold crease). Stained on verso - toning show through at center section. Otherwise, fine condition.
