Prince signed this letter, typed in 1977 on his letterhead, to Paul Hanley, thanking him for a letter and saying that he wouldn't have time to answer his questions.
Typed letter signed "Harold Prince". With pencil notations on verso in unknown hand. 1 page, 8½x7, on Prince's letterhead. June 7, 1977. Addressed to Mr. Paul Hanley, West Orange, New Jersey. In full: "Dear Paul Hanley: Thank you so much for your note and the comments. I'm afraid I'm rushing off to Europe for the summer, so I won't have time to answer your questions. However, I certainly can take the time to answer your P.S. request. See below. [not included] Sincerely, Harold Prince HP:ac". Prince, born in New York City in 1928, has a long list of Tony Awards to his credit. He directed and/or produced the following Tony winners, many of which also earned him Broadway's coveted plaudit as Best Director: Pajama Game (1955), Damn Yankees (1956), New Girl in Town (1958), Fiorello! (1960), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1963), Fiddler on the Roof (1965), Cabaret (1967), Company (1971), A Little Night Music (1973), Candide (1974), Sweeney Todd (1979), Evita (1980), and Phantom of the Opera (1988), culminating in a Lifetime Achievement Tony in 2006. If his nominated plays were added to the list, "minor" achievements like West Side Story and Kiss of the Spider Woman, this list would be even longer. Prince has also worked in film and television, including screen adaptations of some of his Broadway productions. Fiorello! also garnered Prince a Pulitzer Prize. Lightly creased. Folded once horizontally and twice vertically. Otherwise in fine condition.
