TV reporter Herbert Elias Kaplow signed this letter, typed on NBC letterhead, to an autograph hunter in 1964.
Typed letter signed "Herbert Kaplow" as a member of NBC's news division in blue ink. 1 page, 7x10½, on NBC letterhead. Oct. 8, 1964. Addressed to Mr. Eddie Sausa, San Leandro, California. In full: "Dear Mr. Sausa: I'm sorry it's taken me so long to answer your letter of February 7th. I've really been on the move all year. As you note, I've sent along the autographed picture you requested [not included]. I hope your helath improves. Thank you for your interest. Sincerely". Kaplow (1927-2013) was a TV political correspondent. He joined NBC in 1951, where he became a reporter in 1954, and stayed with that network until 1972, when he joined ABC. One of his first assignments was covering Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954, and he travelled throughout the South covering school desegregation. Kaplow was based in Washington, D. C., where he covered the State, Defense, Labor and Justice Departments and, from 1969 to 1972, was NBC's White House correspondent. He also travelled with President Richard Nixon during his first trip to China and covered 10 presidential campaigns between 1956 and 1992 and 19 presidential conventions. Kaplow retired in 1994. Lightly toned and creased. Lightly discolored along left edge. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
