Architect Hubert Bennett signed this typed letter to an autograph hunter on Greater London Council Department of Architecture and Civic Design letterhead in 1969. With a short newspaper article about Bennett winning the Sir Patrick Abercrombie award for his design for the Thamesmead health center.
Typed letter signed "H Bennett" in blue ink. 1 page, 4¼x4½, on letterhead of the Greater London Council Department of Architecture and Civic Design, affixed to 6¼x5¾ piece of white paper. With short newspaper article about Hubert Bennett receiving the Sir Patrick Abercrombie award for his design for the Thamesmead health center. June 25, 1969. In full: "Dear Mr. Croxford, Thank you for your most interesting letter regarding your hobby. It is very nice of you to think of including my name among your collection and I hope your album will continue to give you great pleasure for many years to come. Yours sincerely,". Bennett (1909-2001, born in Barton-on-Irwell, Lancashire, England) was Architect to the London City Council and its successor, the Greater London Council, from 1956 until 1971. A hands-on architect with a keen interest in conserving old buildings, he supervised an architectural department with over 3,500 people, making it the largest architectural practice in the world. Lightly toned and creased. Letter has been clipped into pieces and affixed to mounting paper. Letter and mounting paper have irregular edges. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
