JACKIE "LITTLE JACKIE" HELLER
On a printed "Ask Myrus" card, he extends best wishes to Elsie Myrus, wife of the famed mentalist
Autograph Sentiment Signed: "Best Wishes/Jackie/Heller", 4x5. Printed "Ask Myrus" card from a performance of Myrus the Wizard of Mental Telepathy at the College Inn, Sheraton Hotel, Chicago. Jackie Heller (1906-1988) was universally known as "Little Jackie"; he stood 5'1" and weighed 105 pounds. A street performer in his youth, Heller wrote and published his own songs through the Little Jackie Heller Little Sheet Music Company. His Little Jackie Heller Band performed in Midwestern hotels and nightclubs during the Depression. During World War II, he toured exhaustively for the USO, performing near the front lines in the Pacific and winning the first Army Commendation Medal given to a USO entertainer. After the war, he owned a nightclub in Pittsburgh, featuring nationally famed performers like Martin & Lewis, Jackie Gleason and Victor Borge. Harry Carp, who employed the stage name of Myrus, was a renowned "mentalist" with a remarkable gift for answering questions posed by members of the audience. His wife, Melba Merriam, who went by Elsie Myrus when acting as his assistant, collected autographs from celebrities attending his performances. This autograph was part of her collection. Lightly toned and worn around edges. Fine condition.
