The supporting actor in many films of World War II, trained in "the College of Hard Knocks", submits a handwritten list of his acting credits for Theatre World's 1945-1946 edition.
Autograph Document signed in text: "Jay Norris", 1 page, 8½x5½. Belmont Place [New York City], circa 1946. On a form for Theatre World magazine titled Biography File, Norris reports his address and phone number and a brief biography, including [birthplace] "Georgia", [date of birth] "8/3/17", [education] "'College of Hard Knocks'", [theatre apprenticeship] "Agent's office", [plays on Broadway] "'Strange Fruit'/many radio shows + television", [motion pictures] "'See Here Pvt. Hargrove' - 'Fighting Seabees' - 'Thirty Seconds over Tokio [sic]' 'This Man's Navy' - 'My Buddy' - 'A Walk in the Sun' - 'The Well Groomed Bride'". As this resume notes, Jay Norris (b. 1917) appeared in several well-known movies of World War II, assuming small and in some cases un-credited roles. His sole Broadway appearance was noteworthy. Strange Fruit, a play produced and directed by José Ferrer, was based on the Lillian Smith's 1944 novel of inter-racial romance and violence, considered quite controversial in its day. Norris appeared in the supporting role of "Doug." After supporting roles in a few more movies, including The Woman on the Beach (1947) and two Joe Palooka films (1947-1948), Norris made no more credited appearances. His future career is unknown.
