B/w 11x14 photo of the famous New York City music venue signed by a Who's Who
of 1960s and 1970s rock, including Country Joe, the founders of the Eagles and
Jefferson Airplane and electric guitar innovator Les Paul
Photograph signed "Billy Cox", "Marty Balin", "John Kay", "Randy Meisner",
"David Nelson", "Dickie Petersen", "Eric Andersen", "Country Joe", "David
Freiberg", "Les Paul", "Buddy Cage", "Bonnie Bramlett", "Gary Duncan", "Ian
McLagan 'Mac'", "Richie Faray", "Spencer Davis", "David LaFlamme", "Tom
Constanten", all in blue ink. B/w, 11x14. This photo of New York City's
Fillmore East, dated nine days before the music venue closed, is
signed by a Who's Who of late 1960's and early 1970's rock. The signatures
on this photo include RANDY MEISNER, founder of the Eagles; MARTY
BALIN, founder of Jefferson Airplane; JOSEPH "COUNTRY JOE" MCDONALD, lead
singer of Country Joe & the Fish; electric guitar innovator and Top 40
musician LES PAUL; DAVID NELSON and BUDDY CAGE of the New
Riders of the Purple Sage (Cage would replace Jerry Garcia on NRPS one year
after this photo was signed); RICHIE FURAY of Buffalo Springfield;
JOHN KAY of Steppenwolf; TOM CONSTANTEN of the Grateful
Dead; DAVID FREIBERG of Quicksilver Messenger Service; GARY
DUNCAN of the Brogues and Quicksilver Messenger Service; BILLY COX, who
played bass in Jimi Hendrix's band Band of Gypsys; BONNIE BRAMLETT of
Delaney & Bramlett; IAN "MAC" MCLAGAN of Small Faces and Faces;
singer/songwriter ERIC ANDERSEN; SPENSER DAVIS, founder of the Spenser
Davis Group; DAVID LAFLAMME, founder of It's a Beautiful Day and the
first incarnation of Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks; and DICKIE PETERSON of
Blue Cheer. Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver Messenger Service were two of
the many bands to alternate between the New York location and the Fillmore West
in San Francisco. Rock promoter Bill Graham opened the Fillmore East in New York
City on March 8, 1968, at a site formerly occupied by a Yiddish theater and
then a run-down movie house, in order to have an East Coast complement his
Fillmore West in San Francisco. The Fillmore East held its last concert on
June 27, 1971, but in its slightly over three years it featured
performances by many of rock's established and emerging stars, as well as jazz
and folk performances. Several live performances at the Fillmore East were
turned into record albums. Although the site of the 3,664-seat auditorium is now
occupied by an apartment house, a Fillmore East Preservation Society helps keep
its legend alive. Fine condition.
