Typed Letter Twice Signed: “L Tre” in red felt tip, and “”T” in blue ink. 7¼x10½. In full: “22 Sept. Dear Rush: When do the presents stop!? Gad! That door knocker is just about the greatest. The four of us will be at the Falcon-Colorado game on 3 Oct…at the Academy…Won't you all join us? LUV, T.” Lester Tremayne (1913-2003), a radio actor and entertainer of the 1930s and 1940s, was Nick Charles on The Adventures of the Thin Man, and was featured in variety shows and several other dramas, including The Romance of Helen Trent and The Falcon. He succeeded Don Ameche as host of The First Nighter in 1936. A poll in the early 1940s named his the third most familiar voice in America, after Franklin Roosevelt and Bing Crosby. On film, he played a general in War of the Worlds(1953), and narrated Forbidden Planet and the US release of Rodan. He was a voice-over on several animated films, including Mr. Magoo, The Smurfs and Johnny Quest. Tremayne was enshrined in the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1995. Lightly toned.
