The U.S. Senator from Wyoming signs a letter to Ralph E. Ward for his collection.
Typed Letter signed: "Lester Hunt", as U.S. Senator, 1 page, 6x8. Washington, D.C., 1952 February 13. On letterhead of the United States Senate addressed to Mr. Ralph E. Ward, Jr., Melrose Highlands, Massachusetts. In full: "Dear Mr. Ward: This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of February 9th, requesting autograph, and I am pleased to comply with your re-quest. Sincerely yours," Accompanied by: U.S. Senate envelope addressed to Ralph E. Ward, Jr., postmarked Washington, D.C., February 18, 1952 with Hunt's ink stamped frank. Lester Callaway Hunt (1892-1954) was born in Isabel, Illinois. He graduated from the St. Louis University College of Dentistry in 1917 and moved to Lander, Wyoming to commence his dental practice. During World War I he served in the United States Army Dental Corps and rose to the rank of major. He was the president of the Wyoming State Board of Dental Examiners (1926-1928), member of the Wyoming State House of Representatives (1933-1934), Secretary of State of Wyoming (1935-1943) and Governor of Wyoming (1943-1949). In 1948 he was elected as a Democrat for Wyoming to the United States Senate and he served from January 3, 1949 until June 19, 1954, when he died after shooting himself in his Senate office. From the collection Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward became President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Adhesive residue on verso. Normal mailing fold.
