The two talented actors sign this black and white still from the 1958 movie
Photograph signed: "Conrad Janis" in blue ink and "Julius LaRosa" in blue felt tip, b/w, 10x8.
Still from the film Let's Rock (1958). Multi-talented CONRAD JANIS (1928-2022) has
appeared in almost 100 movies and TV shows since 1945. His TV roles have included
Mindy McConnell's father Fred in Mork and Mindy(1978-1982). (Sci-fi comedy is
nothing new to Janis; he was also boss-from-hell Otto Palindrome in 1978's Quark) Janis also
appeared in 13 Broadway productions between 1945 and 1978, including the 1952
Theatre World Award-winning play The Brass Ring. A musician as well as an actor, Janis is a
self-taught Dixieland trombonist who freelanced between acting jobs in the 1950s and has
been the leader of at least two jazz bands: Conrad Janis and His Tail Gate 5 (which
appeared alongside him in the Broadway play Marathon '33, 1963-1964) and the Beverly Hills
Unlimited Jazz Band. Janis became a director in 1994 with The November Conspiracy
and has directed two other movies since then: Bad Blood (2006) and Bad Blood... The
Hunger (2009). Singer/actor JULIUS LA ROSA (1930-2016) got his start with radio/TV
personality Arthur Godfrey, was as famous for getting fired on the air in 1953 as he was
for his smooth ballads, which he sang in a way that showed his appreciation for a song's
lyrics. After parting ways with Godfrey, La Rosa worked in clubs, on television, and in summer
stock theatre. Beginning in 1969, he commenced an eight-year stint as a DJ for a
popular radio show in New York, before returning to singing and summer stock. La Rosa,
whose biggest hit was Eh Cumpari, continued singing well into his 70s and made occasional
forays into radio and TV. In 1980, he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Daytime
Emmy for his role as Renaldo on the TV soap Another World (1964-1999). Indentation
extending downward from top edge touches Janis's signature. Lightly toned. Gently bowed.
Corners worn and creased. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
