LIONEL JEFFRIES
Jeffries responds to a question of "peace"
Autograph Letter signed: "Lionel Jeffries", 6x4 personal imprinted note card. No location, December 1991. In full: "Dear Alan Fox, Thank you for your letter. 'Can we ever learn to live in peace?' you ask. I suppose, and pray we might- the one thing we all have is hope--and with people like you around then we stand a good chance! God Bless, Yours". British actor, writer and director Lionel Jeffries (1926-2010) was awarded the Burma Star for his service in WWII and trained at the RADA upon his return to London. From 1950 into the 1970s, Jeffries built a very successful career in film and on stage playing comic character roles - most notably as the Marquis of Queensberry in The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960) and as Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968). With nearly 100 credits, he turned to writing and directing in the 1970s with a focus on children's films - The Railway Children (1970), The Amazing Mr. Blunden (1972) The Water Babies (1978). Jeffries was not fond of television but did appear later in his career in the series Inspector Morse. Fine condition.
