Envelope Signed: “John R. Ruhoff” 3½x6 envelope. Postmarked June 20, 1950. Includes Ruhoff's numerous positions typed on the envelope. In Full: “Lt. Col. John R. Ruhoff/Professor of Chemistry Harvard University,/Research Dir. Organic Chem. Mallincroft Chem.Works,/Contributor to Atomic Bomb Project./St. Louis, Mo.” John R. Ruhoff was a professor in chemistry who worked for Mallincroft (also spelled as Mallinckrodt), to assist in the development of nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project. Ruhoff was one of two scientists (alongside Henry V. Farr) who worked for Mallincroft to purify uranium in a laboratory in St. Louis, Missouri in 1942. According to the Smyth Report, the St. Louis facility Ruhoff supervised produced 30 tons per month of purified uranium, beginning in the summer of 1942. Worn edges. Light pencil marking on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
