Advertising: "The National Portrait Gallery and The Museum of Broadcasting On the Air: Pioneers of American Broadcasting" One of broadcasting's early contributors, Lucille Ball (1911-1989) rose to national recognition in the television comedy series, I Love Lucy(1951-1957, 1957-1960); she signed this schedule produced by the National Portrait Gallery and the Museum of Broadcasting for their salute to those pioneers. Besides forming Desilu Productions with her husband Desi Arnaz (1917-1986) and producing a new variety of programming - the situation comedy, Lucy's acting and comedic abilities made her a star and guiding light to other comediennes. I Love Lucy ranked in the top three during its original six-year run, for which Lucy won Emmy Awards in 1952 and 1955. The feature on Lucy was combined with that of comedian Bob Hope and was screened daily from November 14 through December 4, 1988. The indomitable Lucy also appeared in The Lucy Show (1962-1968); on Broadway; and in numerous comedic, dramatic and musical films, including The Ziegfeld Follies (1944) and Yours Mine and Ours (1968).
