FDC honoring the 1980 Olympics Summer Events, 15-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Los Angeles, CA, September 28, 1979, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Black American track and field star Malvin Greston "Mal" Whitfield (1924-2015) won gold medals in the 800 meters at both the 1948 and 1952 Olympic games.
