FIORENZA COSSOTTO and MARION LIPPERT
Metropolitan Opera program for a 1970 production of Verdi's Don Carlo, signed by mezzo-soprano Fiorenza Cossotto and soprano Marion Lippert
Program signed "Fiorenza Cossotto" in black ink and "Marion Lippert" in blue ink, both on cast page. Color and b/w, 64 pages including cover, 8x10¾, bound with two staples. Program for the Metropolitan Opera's May 21, 1970 production of Verdi's Don Carlo at Lincoln Center Plaza in New York City. Cossotto played Princess Eboli and Lippert played Elizabeth of Valois. COSSOTTO, born in 1935, is an Italian mezzo-soprano with a big, overpowering voice. She is considered to be one of the greatest mezzo-sopranos of the 20th Century, with a career spanning five decades and into the new millennium. Cossotto made her debut in 1957 as Sister Matilde at the 1957 world premiere of Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. Her big break came five years later, when she replaced an ill Giulietta Simionato as the lead in a 1962 La Scala production of La Favorita. Cossotto also appeared almost 150 times at the Metropolitan Opera between1968 and 1989. LIPPERT is a German operatic soprano who sang at the Metropolitan Opera from 1968 to 1974. Lightly toned. Lightly worn and rounded corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
