MARJAN RAWICZ and WALTER LANDAUER
Program for a 1944 performance at London's Royal Albert Hall, signed by the piano duo of Marjan Rawicz and Walter Landauer. They shared the bill with Webster Booth and Anne Ziegler.
Program signed "Marjan Rawicz" and "Walter Landauer" on front cover. B/w, 4 pages including covers, 5x7½, 1 sheet folded, front and verso. Program for a Dec. 30, 1944 performance at Royal Albert Hall in Westminster, London, England. The piano duo of Rawicz and Landauer shared the bill with Webster Booth and Anne Ziegler. Austrian-born Landauer (1910-1983) and Polish-born Rawicz (1898-1970)were both halves of the popular piano duo Rawicz and Landauer. The met by accident at an Austrian resort in the early 1930s, the duet performed from 1932 until Rawicz's death in 1970 and was famed for their precise four-hand playing based on Landauer's adaptations of popular and classical music. They moved to England in 1935 to escape the Nazis, where they made regular appearances on BBC radio and eventually became citizens. Rawicz and Landauer achieved international stardom during the postwar 1940s and the 1950, especially through collaborations with mood music meister Annunzio Paolo Mantovani, and sold tens of thousands of records. Landauer's original compositions include Vienna Concerto for piano and orchestra, and he continued to perform as a soloist after Rawicz's death. Lightly toned, otherwise in fine condition.
