The former governor of Wisconsin signs this typed letter thanking the recipient for writing him
Typed Letter signed: “Martin J. Schreiber” 1p, 8½x11. August 19, 1977. On his official gubernatorial letterhead. Addressed to Miss Toni Currin, Dillon, South Carolina. Written to “Dear Miss Currin”. In full: “Thank you for your recent letter./  I appreciate yur [sic] comments on my inadvertent telephone call to Mayor Maier. It was indeed a surprise to find myself involved in that conversation./ I'll be interested to watch the gubernatorial race in South Carolina. Mr. Jeff Brown, a member of my staff, will be in touch with you regarding your request for a button./ Again, thank you for writing. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome in my office./ Best wishes./ Yours very truly”. Martin J. Schreiber (b.1939) served as the 39th Governor of Wisconsin from 1977 to 1979. Beginning his political career in the Wisconsin State Senate, Scheiber was involved in legislation centered on education, consumer protection, and children's issues. He ran and was elected lieutenant governor in 1970. After Governor Patrick Lucey resigned to fill the post of U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Schreiber ascended to the governorship. He ran again for governor in 1982, but failed to make it past the primary stage. Following his time in office as governor, Schreiber worked first in insurance and later as a lobbyist. Two horizontal mailing folds. Toned. Worn and creased throughout, especially at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
