Eisenhower has in most cases declined to check the boxes provided, but has handwritten more detailed answers to each category of problem. In full: [International & Military] "The need here is to have those nations which really want peace to agree upon a total program for its achievement - and then for each to do its full share, even though its cost hurts."; [Political] "Each of these is a problem. I am most alarmed by the emotionalism and bitterness that have come into all political debate. Schisms get deeper and deeper. It is the test of statemen to find a point of creative compromise that gets good action."; [Economic] "We obviously should reduce all Federal expenditures possible, for the minimum needs of defense here and abroad threaten economic stability. In other words, we should drop non-essentials even to the point of austerity and concentrate on essentials. Milton EISENHOWER (1899-1985), the brother of President Eisenhower, served in the U.S. Foreign Service and the Agriculture department. In 1942, he directed the relocation of Japanese-Americans on the West Coast. Between 1943 and 1970, he was President of three universities: his alma mater Kansas State, Penn State, and Johns Hopkins. He served as an advisor to his brother, most importantly as special ambassador on Latin American affairs (1957-1960). He chaired the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence (1968-1969). Gardner COWLES was the publisher of "Look" magazine, while his wife Fleur exercised great influence on its content. Slightly creased. Staple holes in upper left.
