PETE FOUNTAIN
The jazz musician whose 1960 single "A Closer Walk" charted in the United States signed this page featuring the lyrics to one of his songs
Typed lyrics signed: "Pete Fountain". 1p, 8½x11. Lyrics to "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans". Clarinetist Peter Fountain (1930-2016) was a prominent musician who played jazz across many different subgenres. Born in New Orleans, Fountain played at Pier 600 in his hometown until he was spotted by a Lawrence Welk talent scout and brought to Los Angeles. He played in the Lawrence Welk Orchestra and had many solos on The Lawrence Welk Show (1955-1982). Fountain's charting singles include "A Closer Walk" (1960), "Licorice Stick" (1964), and "Mae" (1965). He was also a founding member of the Half-Fast Walking Club, a marching music group that walked New Orleans on Mardi Gras. The name was changed from the original name, The Half-Assed Walking Club, due to pressure from Mardi Gras parade officials. His dozens of albums are partially Dixieland jazz, but include a variety of jazz and non-jazz genres. Slightly creased at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
