PIERRE LA MURE
The French author of Moulin Rouge sends letter of thanks to a journalist for the good review, signs name in red ink
Typed letter signed: "Pierre" in red ink. 1 page, 7¼x10. Written on personal letterhead. New York City, New York. October 12, 1962. In full: "Dear Louis, You can flatter yourself that you have an enormous and faithful following, for I've been deluged with calls and clippings from people who read your gracious lines about Clair de Lune. It was nice of you to do that. But then I've long suspected you're the kind of man who likes to do nice things. Sincerely". Pierre La Mure (1899-1976) was a French author best known for his 1950 novel Moulin Rouge about the life of artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, which was the basis for the 1952 movie of the same name. La Mure also produced the book Beyond Desire (1955) about the life of Cecile and Felix Mendelssohn, as well as the biographical novel Claire de Lune (1962), about the life and struggles of French composer of Claude Debussy. Normal mailing folds. Slightly toned. Light surface creases. Red ink stamp in top margin. Pencil notes in top margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
