Alcide de Gasperi (1881-1954) was an Italian politician credited as the founder of Italy's Christian Democracy party. The prime minister of eight coalition governments from 1945 to 1953, his tenure was an impressively long one given the tumultuous nature of Italian politics. While he was serving as Prime Minister, Italy became a Republic and joined NATO. He also enjoined Italy's membership in the European Coal and Steel Community, which eventually became the European Union. Two horizontal folds, spaced about 1 inch apart. Toned. Staple holes at upper left-hand corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
