The U.S. Senator from New Jersey signs a letter to Ralph E. Ward for his collection.
Typed Letter signed: "Robert C. Hendrickson", as U.S. Senator, 1 page, 8x10½ page. No place, 1952 February 13. On letterhead of the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary addressed to Mr. Ralph E. Ward, Jr., Melrose Highlands, Massachusetts. In full: "My dear Mr. Ward: This will acknowledge receipt of your letter of February 9th, requesting my autograph. I am pleased to add my name to your collection. Sincerely yours," Accompanied by: U.S. Senate envelope addressed to Ralph E. Ward, Jr., postmarked Washington, D.C., February 13, 1952 with Hendrickson's ink stamped frank. Robert Clymer Hendrickson (1898-1964) was born in Woodbury, Gloucester County, New Jersey. A graduate of Temple University Law School, he was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Woodbury, New Jersey in 1922. He served as a New Jersey State Senator (1934-1940), State Treasurer (1942-1948), vice chairman for the Commission on Delaware River Basin (1936-1951) and Ambassador to New Zealand (1955-1956). Hendrickson was elected to the United States Senate as a Republican from New Jersey and served from January 3, 1949 until January 2, 1955. He also served in the United States Army during World War I and with the American Military Government in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations during World War II. From the collection Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward became President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Multiple mailing folds. Adhesive residue on verso (light show through). Minor notch at top left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
