ROD CAMERON. Partly Printed DS: "Rod Cameron", 1p, 8½x13.
Hollywood, California, 1950 June 12. Contract in letter form on
letterhead of Manning O'Connor Agency, Hollywood. Cameron employs the agency
as his "sole and exclusive personal representative and adviser for the term
of seven years, commencing June 12, 1950." Begins: "Gentlemen".
In part: "Your duties hereunder shall be as follows: To use all
reasonable efforts to procure employment for me whenever I notify you that my
services as a director, producer, associate producer, supervisor, executive
writer, composer, editor, cinematographer, designer, consultant or
technician are or will be available...I agree to pay you as and when
received by me a sum equal to 10% of the gross compensation earned or
received by me during there term hereof and hereafter...This instrument sets
forth the entire agreement between us...This contract may not be cancelled,
altered or amended except by an instrument in writing." Also signed:
"Manning OConnor" for Manning O'Connor Agency under "Agreed to and
Accepted". In the year he signed this document, Cameron starred in Stage
to Tucson, Short Grass and Dakota Lil. Over the seven-year
term of this contract, he would appear in a number of feature films,
including Oh! Susanna (1951), Wagons West (1952) and Santa Fe
Passage (1955), and would appear in the first two of his three TV action
series, City Detective (1953) and Stage Trooper (1956). These
shows and his later series, Coronado 9 (1960), made him richer than his
previous film roles. Canadian-born actor Rod Cameron (1910-1983), born Roderick
Cox, began his career as a stuntman and Paramount contract player before
reaching leading man status with Republic Pictures and Universal.
Cameron's other film credits include The Old Maid (1939), Wake
Island (1942), The Kansan (1943), Panhandle (1948), The Gun
Hawk (1963) and Evel Knievel (1973), and he also made a number of TV
movies and guest starred on several TV shows, including Bonanza. Lightly
creased with folds, not at signatures. ¾-inch tear at upper blank margin. Fine
condition.
