ROGER PRYOR
"The poor man's Clark Gable" signed this card for Elsie Myrus, wife of the famed mentalist
Printed Card signed in pencil: "Sincerely/Roger Pryor", 4x5. Signed on an "Ask Myrus" card distributed during a performance Myrus the Wizard of Mental Telepathy at the College Inn, Sheraton Hotel, Chicago. Roger Pryor (1901-1974) played roguish leading man parts in B- movies, earning the sobriquet "the poor man's Clark Gable." He biggest role was as Mae West's paramour in Belle of the Nineties (1936). He also starred in the Broadway hit Blessed Event (1932), one of his 13 appearances on the Great White Way. Pryor was married to actress Ann Sothern (1936-1943). His ability to sing, play trombone and lead a band (like his father, Arthur Pryor) made him a successful radio host in the 1940s. He had a successful second career as an ad executive. Harry Carp, who employed the stage name of Myrus, was a renowned "mentalist" with a remarkable gift for answering questions posed by members of the audience. His wife, Melba Merriam, who went by Elsie Myrus when acting as his assistant, collected autographs from celebrities attending his performances. This autograph was part of her collection. Lightly toned at edges. Corners lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
