Program signed: "Sam Levene", 24 pages, 5¼x7¼, affixed to a 9x12 piece of construction paper. Playbill for a 1958 production of Middle of the Night, starring Levene, at the Famous Actors Country Playhouse, Fayetteville, North Carolina. Sam Levine (1905-1980), who was nominated for a 1961 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play (The Devil's Advocate), debuted on the Great White Way in Wall Street in 1927. His Broadway credits include Dinner at Eight (1932), Three Men on a Horse (1935-1937; revival 1969-1970), Light Up the Sky (1948-1949), Guys and Dolls (1950-1953), The Sunshine Boys (1972-1973) and Horowitz and Mrs. Washington (1980, his last stage appearance before his death from a heart attack). In 1936, Levene made his screen debut, reprising his role as superstitious gambler Patsy in the film version of Three Men on a Horse. That same year, he made the first of two appearances as Lieutenant Abrams in Thin Man films (After the Thin Man, 1936; Shadow of the Thin Man, 1941). Levene appeared in over 30 feature films, his last being ...After the Fall in 1979, as well as in made-for-TV movies, TV anthologies (including The United States Steel Hour and Studio One) and the TV series, The Untouchables (1960).Toned.
