With André Strauss's calling card, 3½x2½, affixed under Huntington's signature. Calling card contains five lines of French, translated in full: “Sir and Madam/ [imprinted name of Strauss]/ Good work!/ Come back soon!/ Our very friendly and best thoughts”. Russian-born KOUSSEVITZKY (1874-1951) was a recognized bassist, composer and conductor in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. After the Russian Revolution, he remained in his native country for a time, as music director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, but then left Russia for Paris and then the United States, where he became a citizen in 1941. The long-time music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (1924-1949), Koussevitzky championed modern works and developed the BSO's summer concerts and teaching programs at Tanglewood. German-born STOCK (1872-1942), born Friedrich August Stock, was the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's second Music Director, leading the orchestra from 1905 until his death in 1942, the longest service of any of the orchestra's conductors. Stock, who was a skilled interpreter of composers from Bach to contemporary figures, such as Prokofieff, transformed the orchestra into one of the world's finest and can still be heard on the numerous recordings he made with the Symphony. Polish-born BURGIN (1892-1981) was an American violinist who first performed in public at age 11. He is most often associated with the BSO, which hired him in 1920 as concertmaster and from which he retired after the 1961-1962 season. He also conducted over 300 BSO concerts. Polish-born pianist EISENBERGER (1879-1945) was known for his interpretations of Beethoven and a commanding playing style, although he confessed to being a fan of Brahms as well.He moved to the United States in 1928 to teach at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and made his New York City debut in 1930. His pupils included pianists Lili Kraus, Sylvia Straus Heschel and Vivien Harvey Slater, composer Heinrich Kaminski and pianist, composer and folklorist Herbert Haufrecht. STRAUSS (1885-1971) was a French painter. Lightly toned, bowed and rippled. Light discoloration at top and right edges, which touch Koussevitzky and Huntington's signatures. Left edge slightly irregular from being neatly torn from binding. Faint dents along top, right and bottom edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
