SIGMUND ROMBERG
Sigmund Romberg signs a black and white newspaper photograph.
Newspaper photograph signed: "Sig Romberg", 2¾x5½ attached to 4½x5½ album leaf. Sigmund Romberg (1887-1951), born in Hungary, moved to the US in 1909. Originally a cafe pianist, he was hired in 1914 by the Schubert brothers to write music for their Broadway theatres. Romberg went on to write some of America's most loved operettas, including The Student Prince (1924), The Desert Song (1926), The New Moon (1928) and Rosalie (with George Gershwin, 1928). He also worked on film scores, conducted orchestral recordings of his works, and - from 1942 until his death - toured with his own orchestra. Image grainy. Otherwise, fine condition.
