SIGMUND ROMBERG
Sigmund Romberg sends a typed letter agreeing to a party after his concert but only for a brief time.
Typed letter signed: "Sig Romberg", 1p, 7¼x10½. On personal letterhead, New York City, New York, 1950 November 6. To Mr. J. Douglas Kaufman, Reading, Pennsylvania. In full: "Thank you so much for your kind invitation to attend a little gathering in my honor at the Wyomissing Club after my concert on November 10th. I shall be very happy yo attend except that I must call your attention to the fact that I am motoring back to New York after the concert, which is a matter of 135 miles of driving. I am sure you will understand, therefore, and forgive me if I make my appearance at your party rather brief. It is possible that I shall have two or three people with me in my part, which I hope will be entirely acceptable to you. With many thanks again for your thoughtfulness in arranging this for me, I am Sincerely yours," Composer Sigmund Romberg (1887-1951) wrote over 2,000 popular songs as well as romantic operettas with songs flavored by his earlier Viennese influences. Romberg's most famous operettas were The Student Prince (1924, included the songs "Deep in My Heart", "Serenade" and "Drinking Song"), The Desert Song (1926, featuring "One Alone") and The New Moon (1928, with songs "Lover, Come Back to Me" and "Stout Hearted Men"). Fold creases through signature. Staple holes at upper left. Otherwise, fine condition.
