Eileen Sheridan was born on October 18, 1924, in Coventry, England and she was a British cyclist who achieved prominence in the 1940s and 1950s for her record-breaking performances in long-distance cycling events.

Sheridan began cycling competitively in the mid-1940s, initially as an amateur with the Coventry Cycling Club. She won the Women’s British Best All-Rounder competition consecutively from 1945 to 1950. In 1951, Sheridan turned professional under sponsorship from Hercules Cycles, focusing on breaking place-to-place and long-distance cycling records. That year, she set the Land’s End to John o’ Groats women’s record, covering the route in 2 days, 11 hours, and 7 minutes, a time that remained unbeaten for decades. She went on to set numerous other endurance records, including the 1,000-mile record and multiple 12- and 24-hour distance records.
