HUGH HERBERT
Born: August 10, 1885 in Binghamton, New York
Died: March 12, 1952 in North Hollywood, California
Biography
Hugh Herbert (1885-1952) played flustered characters with his trademark silly giggle. He starred in B-pictures and played supporting roles in major ones. He was often caricatured in Loony Tunes cartoons of the 1930s and 1940s. One of his best remembered roles was as a nutty detective in Hellzapoppin' (1941). His brother, Tom Herbert, played similarly goofy comic roles. Herbert also wrote many plays and scripts.
