Biography
Ivor Novello (1893-1951, born David Ivor Davies in Cardiff, Glamoganshire, Wales, England) was a Welsh actor, composer, playwright and theatrical manager. Novello first tasted celebrity during World War I, when he composed the patriotic song Keep the Home Fires Burning (1915). He had over 20 movies to his credit between 1919 and 1934, but was best known for his stage work. He first appeared on stage in 1921, and premiered his first play, The Rat, in 1924. A popular actor, went on to write, produce and act in comedies and romantic musicals, including the musicals Glamorous Night (1935), Careless Rapture (1936), The Dancing Years (1939) and King's Rhapsody (1949).
