Biography
Laura La Plante (1904-1996) appeared in silent films from age 15, as a Christie Comedy bathing beauty. She was a WAMPAS Baby Star of 1923, and one of Universal's biggest stars of the silent era, equally at home in comic and dramatic roles. Her popular roles included Smouldering Fires (1925), Skinner's Dress Suit (1926) and The Cat and the Canary (1927). She proved competent in talking films, but was offered fewer roles and retired in 1935. She reappeared in the 1950s for one feature film, Spring Reunion (1957) and several TV guest spots, including an appearance on Groucho Marx's quiz show.
