Lina Basquette was born on April 19, 1907 in San Mateo, California and she was an American actress and dancer who worked in both silent and sound films.

Basquette began performing as a child and was briefly featured as the “Child Wonder” in vaudeville before moving into silent cinema. One of her earliest films was in The Younger Generation (1929) and was signed to Warner Bros. during the late 1920s. Basquette’s career developed during the transition from silent films to talkies, and she appeared in productions such as The Godless Girl (1929), a Cecil B. DeMille production that became one of her most notable films.

Her personal life often drew as much attention as her acting. She was married nine times, most prominently to Sam Warner, co-founder of Warner Bros. Pictures, with whom she had a daughter. Following Warner’s death in 1927, Basquette became embroiled in a highly publicized custody dispute with his family over her child.

Although her Hollywood career slowed after the 1930s, she continued to take occasional roles, including in low-budget westerns and serials. Basquette later reinvented herself as a professional dog breeder, becoming highly regarded in the world of Great Danes and authoring works on dog training and breeding.
