Biography
NADIA BOULANGER (1887-1979), French organist, composer, conductor and renowned teacher of music, was the daughter and granddaughter of well-known musicians. She entered the Paris Conservatory at age 10, and came in 2nd in the Prix de Rome competition, a prize her younger sister Lili, who died in 1918, was the first woman to win. Boulanger was the first woman to conduct several of the world's great orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. As Director of the American Conservatory in Fontainebleu and instructor at several other music schools, she taught and greatly influenced many famed American composers, including Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein and Philip Glass
