Biography
Pianist Rudolf Serkin (1903-1991) had made his debut with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12. Although he was recognized for his interpretations of a number of composers - and won a 1983 Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance - Serkin was also known for being one of the most influential piano teachers of the post-WWII era. In addition to his work with students at the Curtis Institute, Serkin also devoted his summers to encouraging young musicians at the Marlboro Festival in Vermont.
