Stanley Holloway (1890-1982), is best remembered for his portrayal of Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady, which he performed in New York and London and for which he earned an Oscar nomination in the 1964 film. Holloway was popular in England much earlier, however, performing in silent films from 1921, and recording some popular comedy songs. (One of his hit songs was the still remembered "With Her Head Tucked underneath Her Arm", a ballad of Anne Boleyn's ghost (1930). His film roles included the coveted cameo role of the gravedigger in Olivier's Hamlet (1948). He was a veteran of World War I.
