VICTOR BABIN
Born: December 13, 1908 in Moscow, Russia
Died: March 01, 1972 in Cleveland, Ohio
Biography
VICTOR BABIN (1908-1972) met and married fellow Russian pianist VITYA VRONSKY (1909-1992) while both were music students in Berlin. Together they formed what Newsweek called "the most brilliant two-piano team of our generation." They toured widely in Europe and the Americas, giving an estimated 1,200 concerts in North America alone, despite devoting World War II to war work. Babin and Vronsky were close friends of composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, recording many of his works. Babin also arranged piano solos and duets, and composed some of his own. From 1961, he was Director of the Cleveland Institute of Music, also teaching there with Vronsky, who continued to teach there after her death.
