Commemorative Envelope signed: "Mike Coats", "L. Blaine Hammond", "Guion S. Bluford", "Rick Hieb", "Lacy Veach", "Gregory Harbaugh" and "Don McMonagle". 6½x3½, with USA 25 and space hologram in upper right corner. STS-39 was a Department of Defense mission flown by Space Shuttle Discovery, launched on April 28, 1991, and lasting eight days. The mission involved deploying and operating classified and unclassified payloads, including the Infrared Background Signature Survey (IBSS) and other instruments to study atmospheric, auroral, and thermal phenomena. It was the first unclassified DOD mission with a crew of seven astronauts conducting extensive scientific and military research in orbit. The crew was composed of: Commander MICHAEL L. COATS, Pilot L. BLAINE HAMMOND and mission specialists GUION S. BLUFORD JR., GREGORY J. HARBAUGH, RICHARD J. HIEB, DONALD R. MCMONAGLE and CHARLES L. VEACH. This flight was the first for Hammond, Harbaugh, McMonagle and Veach and the final flight for Coats and Bluford. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on front and verso. Fine condition.
