The actor and screenwriter signs this RSVP for a "Social Security in Action" event

Actor, director, producer, writer and songwriter Spencer "Andy" Williams, Jr. (1893-1969) is best known for playing Andrew Hogg "Andy" Brown in the TV series, Amos 'n' Andy (1951-1953). Williams, who had come out of retirement to play the part, had last been seen in 1947's Beale Street Mama, which he directed as well as appeared in. He would later guest star on an episode of TV's Bourbon Street Blues (1959) and make an appearance in one last feature film, The Horrible Dr. Hitchcock (1962). Williams, who made his film debut in 1928 in Tenderfoot, appeared in a long list of feature films, most notably The Blood of Jesus (also know as The Glory Road) in 1941. Williams wrote, directed and produced the film, which was selected to become part of the Library of Congress' National Registry of Films, and he also wrote and directed several other features, including Son of Ingagi (1940), Marching On! (1943) and Of One Blood (1944). Williams was also a talented songwriter, penning such songs as "Basin Street Blues" and "I Ain't Got Nobody". Lightly creased at upper left corner.
