Autograph Note Signed: "Stu Erwin". One page. 9½x4. Boston, September 4, 1945. To unknown recipient. In full: "God only knows how we will [illegible] show business! But who cares as long as there are people like you!" Unidentified signature and writing, dated October 31, 1949, on verso. In 1945, Erwin appeared as Captain Jack Ross in the film, Pillow to Post. Stuart "Stu" Erwin (1903-1967) is an actor best known for Trouble With Father, later called The Stu Erwin Show (1950-1955). The sitcom co-starred Erwin's wife, actress June Collyer, to whom he was married from July 22, 1931 until his death on December 21, 1967. The couple acted together for 20 years before their television outing. Erwin, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Pigskin Parade (1936), made his film debut in 1928 in Mother Knows Best. His other film credits include The Band Plays On (1934), I'll Take Romance (1937), Our Town (1940), and Son of Flubber (1963). Erwin, who debuted on Broadway in 1942, was also seen frequently on the small screen. In addition to another series, The Greatest Show on Earth (1963-1964), he made several television movies and appeared as a guest star on shows like Crossroads (1957) to Gentle Ben (1967). Slightly creased. Slightly soiled at blank margins. Minor show through of writing on verso, not at signature. Irregular right edge from removal from bound book. Otherwise, fine condition.
