TERRY SCHRUNK
Handwritten note by the Mayor of Portland, and on verso an affixed note signed by pageant queen Judy Barton
Autograph Note signed: "Terry D. Schrunk/Mayor/City of Roses/Portland, Oregon", and on verso "Judy Barton/Dec. 30, 1964/Far Western Classic Queen ". Schrunk has signed on the 7x9¼page. Barton has signed on a 5x3 pink slip of paper (Fine condition) affixed to the page, below which is also affixed a captioned newspaper photo of her. TERRY DOYLE SCHRUNK (1913-1975) was Mayor of Portland, Oregon for 16 years (1957-1973). During his previous tenure as county sheriff, Schrunk had been prosecuted for prosecution, with Robert F. Kennedy - then a Senate staffer - testifying against him. (Schrunk was found not guilty.) Continued hostility between Schrunk and RFK was a factor in the latter's loss of the 1968 Oregon Democratic Primary to Senator Eugene McCarthy. JUDY BARTON (b. 1944) of Knoxville, Tennessee was Miss Majorette America (1962) and Queen of the Far Western Basketball Classic, hosted by Portland in 1964. The signatures were collected by George Sanders, a radio interview host at station KWJJ in Portland. Left edge frayed. Edges worn. Pin size hole at center bottom edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
