NEW YORK YANKEES (1961)
Composite photo of the infielders on the World Championship team. Two
images each of the players, against a backdrop of Yankee Stadium.
Composite photograph signed: "Moose Skowron", "Bobby Richardson",
"Tony Kubek", "Clete Boyer". B/w, 8x10. Half body views of the players,
above a set of action photos, signed by all four in blue felt tip. The 1961
Yankees, who went 109-53 and easily bested the Cincinnati Reds in a 5-game World
Series, are considered one of the greatest baseball teams of all time. BILL
"MOOSE" SKOWRON joined the Yankees as a first baseman in 1954. A powerful
opposite-field hitter, he topped the .300 mark five times with New York and was
All-Star first baseman in 1960. Six seasons an All-Star, he became a hero of
the 1958 World Series versus the Braves, driving in the winning run in Game Six,
and hitting a three-run homer in the eighth inning of the final game. He was
traded to the Dodgers in 1963. BOBBY RICHARDSON played his entire career with
the New York Yankees (1955-1966), playing second base on seven Yankee
pennant-winners. He had great range and was particularly adept at turning
the double play. Teamed with shortstop Kubek, he led the AL in double plays four
times, and won five consecutive Gold Gloves. His sensational performance in
the 1960 World Series won him Series MVP honors. He batted .367 with 11 hits, a
grand slam, and eight runs scored, setting World Series records with 12 total
RBI and 6 RBI in Game Three.. In 1961, he tied records for a five-game
Series with nine hits and 23 at-bats, for a .391 average. He
dramatically ended the 1962 Series when he caught Willie McCovey's hard liner
with two on and two out in the ninth inning of Game Seven to preserve the
Yankees' 1-0 victory over San Francisco. TONY KUBEK was the AL
Rookie of the Year in 1957, hitting .297 and showing amazing versatility as
he spent substantial time in the outfield, at shortstop, and at third base, with
brief early stints at second base and first base as well. He became the
Yankees' regular shortstop in 1958, pairing with Richardson as a great
double play combination. A dangerous neck and back condition forced Kubek to
retire at the age of 29, but he quickly became one of television's most
successful baseball announcers. CLETE BOYER (1937-2007) ranked as
a top AL defensive third baseman during his eight years with the Yankees,
overshadowed only by Baltimore's Brooks Robinson. In the 1962 World Series, he
batted .318 against the Giants, including a home run in the opening game.
When he homered in the seventh game of the 1964 WS two innings after his
brother Ken had homered for the Cardinals, it marked the only time that brothers
had connected for home runs in the same WS game. He holds the WS record for
most career assists by a third baseman (66). Traded to the Braves after the 1966
season, he enjoyed his best offensive year in 1967 with 26 homers and 96 RBI.
He led NL third basemen in fielding in 1967 and 1969. MLB stickers at bottom
edge. Fine condition.
