THE COMMODORES: WALTER ORANGE. Partly Printed DS: "Walter Orange" as Performer, 2p, 8½x11, separate sheets. No place, 1981 December, no date. Headed: "Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract for Single Television Broadcast and for Multiple Television Broadcasts Within One Calendar Week". Contract between Commodores Entertainment Corporation fso/Lionel Richie, New York, New York and Scotti Brothers/SYD Vinnedge Television, Los Angeles, California, for Orange to appear on the program, An America's Top Ten Christmas. The performance was to be held at the Franklin Hotel, Hollywood, California, and Orange, who is classified as a "Performer Who Speaks Five Lines or Less" was to receive $188.25 in compensation. Also signed by the producer. In the year Orange signed this contract, the Commodores released In the Pocket, their last album featuring lead vocalist and group founder, Lionel Richie. An original member of the Commodores, founded at Tuskegee Institute in 1967, Walter "Clyde" Orange played the drums and was a co-lead vocalist. After signing with Motown in 1971, the group became one of the country's most popular bands by the mid-1970s, with hits including "Machine Gun", "Brick House", "Easy", "Three Times A Lady" and "Sail On". The Commodores sold more than 60 million records for Motown and had seven No. 1 hits. Beginning in 1980, Richie began more "outside" projects, releasing his first solo album, Lionel Richie, in 1982. After Richie left the group in 1983, the Commodores (Orange is still a member of the group) continued to record and tour. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Staples and staple holes at upper left blank corner, staple holes at upper right blank edge. Overall, fine condition.
