TONYA HARDING
Color image of the controversial figure skater on the ice
Photograph signed: "Tonya/Harding/[She has drawn an ice skate.]". Color, 8x10. Tonya Harding (b. 1970) was a figure skater renowned for her athleticism, though not for her style. She won the U.S. Figure Skating Championship twice (1991, 1994), but was later stripped of her 1994 title. At a practice session for the latter event, Harding's rival Nancy Kerrigan was struck on the knee by an assailant and forced to withdraw. Investigation traced the crime to Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, who had hired the assailant. In plea bargained testimony, Gillooly implicated Harding. After her disappointing showing at the 1994 Winter Olympics, Harding's skating career went downhill fast, accompanied by a string of controversies. These included a pornographic video, "Tonya & Jeff's Wedding Night," which Harding admitting to making while "drunk as a skunk." In 2002, Harding began a new sports career as a professional boxer, compiling as of 2005 a record of 4-3-0, with one knockout. A long string of police incidents have dogged Harding in recent years, most involving alcohol, but she set a new speed record for a gasoline coupe, topping 97 mph in a vintage Model A Ford at Bonneville Salt Flats in 2009. Fine condition.
