Program signed: "Van/Johnson" in red ink on cast page. 24 pages, 5½x8½. London, circa March 1961. Program for the European premiere of The Music Man at London's Adelphi Theatre. Johnson starred as Harold Hill in the production, which co-starred Patricia Lambert as Marian Paroo. Photograph of Johnson, b/w, 4¾x6, on page 6, facing a full page biography of the actor. Johnson (1916-2008, born Charles Van Johnson in Newport, Rhode Island), who emerged as a film star during WWII, easily made the transition from leading man to character roles. His prominent films include Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1943), The Caine Mutiny (1954), Divorce, American Style (1967) and The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985). Johnson showcased his singing voice in a long list of M-G-M musicals, including Brigadoon (1954), as well as in several Broadway productions. Johnson, who guest starred on a long list of TV shows, was also known for touring in The Music Man and other musicals. Lightly creased. Minor show-through of type on some pages. Slightly soiled on back cover. Overall, fine condition, with large, bold signature.
