WALTER D. HUDDLESTON
The Senator writes in support of a grant application for a Kentucky school
Typed Letter Signed: "Walter D Huddleston" as US Senator, 1 page, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1974 January 22. On his personal Senate letterhead to Carlton F. Andrust, Congressional Liaison Officer, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Washington, D.C. In full: "I am enclosing a copy of a letter from Mr. Milton K. Graham, who has submitted an application for funds under the Emergency School Aid Act (Project No. 306 TA). This has been a very valuable program in Kentucky, and I would appreciate receiving any information which I could forward to Mr. Graham concerning the status of this application. Thank you for your attention to this request. Sincerely". Walter "Dee" Huddleston (b. 1926), a radio station manager and state legislator in his native Kentucky, represented that state in the US Senate for two terms (1973-1985). A Democrat, he was narrowly defeated (49.9-49.5%) for a third term by Mitch McConnell, now the Republican Minority Leader, who had run famous attack ads showing Huddleston pursued by bloodhounds. Huddleston has been a leader of the English Language Pac ("EL-PAC") and of FAIR (which seeks to limit legal as well as and illegal immigration). In 2012, he announced his retirement for health reasons as CEO of First Financial Service Corporation. Staple holes at top right corner. Ink stamps throughout letter. Corners creased. Multiple mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
