The congressman from Ohio pens his name on this 3½x2 card in blue ink
Signature: “Walter E. Powell/ Ohio”, in blue ink, 3½x2. Walter Eugene Powell (b.1931) was
a U.S. politician who represented Ohio's 8th district. In 1956, Powell became city clerk of
Fairfield, Ohio. In 1958, he joined the city council. Powell then won a seat in Ohio House of
Representatives in 1960. He was reelected in 1962, and then again in 1964. Powell went on
to serve in the Ohio Senate for two years before winning a seat in the U.S. House of
Representatives. Powell was elected to the 92nd and 93rd Congresses as a Republican and
retired in 1975, after the completion of his second term. Faint scuffing on verso.
